Therefore making it a go-to destination for those seeking an up-close and personal encounter with these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. In addition to this, the park also harbours a diverse range of wildlife. Including the highly threatened Sri Lankan sloth bear and the Sri Lankan elephant.
Two particular special animals that stand out among the other wildlife can be viewed while on a safari in the Wilpattu National Park.
One is the Sloth Bear. This a subspecies of which the Sri Lankan Sloth Bear is a recognized member. An omnivorous species that is highly dependent on the forest for survival is the Sri Lankan sloth bear. Sadly, this animal has been impacted by the island’s constant loss of forests. As a result, the species has been listed as being highly threatened. There may only be a thousand Sri Lankan sloth bears left in existence today.
You might have a rare chance to see this animal in the Wilpattu National Park because it has a population there.
The renowned Sri Lankan leopard is the other notable animal in Wilpattu. The largest cat in Asia at the moment is the Sri Lankan Leopard. A subspecies of the Indian Leopard. These magnificent big cats frequently can be seen relaxing next to the villus inside the park. Therefore offering fantastic chances for filming and photography.
