Itinerary
Start from Negombo or Colombo at 7 am. Take a 4 hour drive to Anuradhapura. Afterwards, have lunch. Visit Anuradhapura and afterwards visit Mihintale.
Return back to Negombo to Colombo for dinner.
Anuradhapura
Anuradhapura dates back to the 3rd century B.C. It was the ancient capital of SriLanka.
Visit Sri maha Bodhi which is the oldest tree in the world. The Ruwanweli Maha Seya is a stupa which is considered as one of the world’s tallest ancient monuments, standing at 103 metres and with a circumference of 290 metres.
In addition to the stupa, is the Thuparama dagoba. This is one of oldest Buddhist temples in the world. Built in the 3rd century B.C.
With its timeless ruins, the sacred city of Anuradhapura really reflects Sri Lanka’s historical heritage and is a place not to be missed on your Sri Lankan experience.
Mihintale
After our amazing tour of Anuradhapura we visit Mihintale. With its monastery complex which was built in the 3rd century B.C. This is the place where Buddhism was established for the first time in Sri Lanka.
See the ruins of an Ancient hospital, Refectory hall, Lion pond, Cobra pond, Ambastale, and the Mihindu cave. Afterwards, proceed to Aukana to see the highest Buddha statue in Sri Lanka. It is one piece of granite that is 13 metres hugh and was built in the 5th century A.D.
