Important Information about Renting a TukTuk or Scooter in Sri Lanka
- You can pick up the Tuk Tuk at the Airport somewhere in Negombo for free. You can drop off the Scooter at the Airport, Negombo. A pick up / drop off in another city is sometimes possible, but with additional costs.
- You pay the full amount of the renting price + deposit when you pick up the Tuk Tuk. It can be payed in USD or Sri Lankan rupees. If you want us to organise the permit in advance you pay the fee upfront with Bank transfer.
- Driving in Sri Lanka with an international driving license or a driving license from your home country is not enough. You need a special Sri Lankan driving permit to rent a tuktuk in Sri Lanka. Here we will give you all the information you need.
THE SRI LANKA DRIVING PERMIT
To drive a Tuk Tuk or Scooter by yourself you have to get the Sri Lanka driving permit. It is an additional document to your international driving license or your home country license. It is a piece of paper with information like your name, your nationality, your passport photo and the vehicle information you are allowed to drive.

HOW TO GET THE DRIVING LICENSE
There are two options how you get the Sri Lanka driving permit. You go to The Automobile Association of Ceylon (AAC) by yourself or if you rent a Tuk Tuk with us we can organise the permit for you. (Costs: 50 USD) We can handle everything before your arrival so we can give you the completed license right after your pickup. If you choose to take care of the license by yourself make sure that you take the following documents to their office:
- Passport
- International driving license / Home country License
- Passport Image
