Balapitiya river boat trip
Madu Ganga is located 80 km away from Colombo, in Balapitiya. This unique wetland spreads over 900 hectares and mostly covered with water. Madu Ganga has a total of 64 islands. This tour will take around 2 hours and it’s advisable to bring drinking water, Sunglasses and a hat. Some boats have adjustable roofing covers.
Itinerary
Start from Negombo or Colombo at 8am. Take a 2.5 hour drive to Balapitiya. Then take a 2 hour boat trip on the Madu river. Afterwards, drive to Galle and on the way visit the Turtle Hatchery.
Have lunch. Visit the bustling Galle market and see the fishermen sell their daily catch. Afterwards, visit Galle Fort with its unique architecture, history, shopping and spend time experiencing some trendy cafes. Finally, return back to Negombo or Colombo for dinner.

Galle Fort
Galle Fort was built by the Portuguese in 1588. Afterwards it was extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century. The Fort has a real Mediterranean feel about the place and has many boutique shops and trendy cafes and coffee shops.
