Sri Lankan cuisine is vastly underrated: its larger neighbours usually steal the stage when it comes to cooking. Many visitors to the island come with few expectations and leave pleasantly surprised. Rice and curry – Sri Lanka’s most iconic dish – is simplified in language but highly complex in execution. The ‘Curry’ that accompanies rice in Sri Lanka is actually an array of dishes made up of different vegetables that might be sauteed in spices, boiled in coconut milk, tempered, deep fried, caramelised, and even served raw with grated coconut. The ingredients themselves may also be things you are unfamiliar with: lotus root for example, or banana blossom.
Cookery Classes in Negombo
Cookery Classes in Negombo take place at Katunayake, which is near to the airport. These are specially tailored for the foreign travellers with an interest to learn how to cook Sri Lankan traditional food and is geared to groups of two or more.
The demonstrations are based on creating dishes, simply and easily, using fresh local ingredients.
Cookery Classes are conducting during Lunch time and dinner time which last 3 hours for each session.
Tea or coffee are provided as well as lots of tastings.
Demonstrations last between 2 to 3 hours.
Lunch or Dinner will be free of charge.
